From a Podunk town in southern Georgia, Athena Renee was born to sing and write songs. Being the only female out of six children, she had to find other outlets to keep her busy. That main outlet was music. Always able to thinking outside the box, Athena found music in everything. Learning from all of aspects of life, she felt the urge to write about simple everyday occurrences that many others never thought they’d had in common. Not until now. Athena’s blend of Soul, Jazz, R&B and storytelling leaves a permanent mark on everyone that listens. “I like to take the audience out their current mindset so that they will be able to shift their thinking to a whole new journey. There’s so much I have to show. It’s like finding a meadow of beautiful daisies on an off beaten path. You never know what shortcuts you’ve missed until someone else points them out.”

As Athena grew, she was constantly told just how different she was by other peers. “Kids always picked on me and told me that I had a great amount of book sense, but no common sense whatsoever,” Athena giggles, “Now I realize that it was a complement. Common sense was only what was common in that area or in that time frame; it didn’t reflect what was relevant in the whole world. Things change, nothing remains the same”

Athena’s love for music moved many people in her town. She’d often sing at the mayor’s banquets, local talent shows, and sporting events. Until Grammy Nominated Gospel Recording Artist, Troy Sneed, came to her town looking for a new young soloist for “It’s My Desire”, a song that Georgia Mass Choir’s Youth for Christ was rehearsing to record at the time. “I was one of the many teenagers that tried out. Nervous as I was, I sang ‘Eye on the Sparrow’ for him while he played the piano. He seemed calm at the audition, but later that week he called me to tell me that he heard something in my voice and that I was chosen to lead the song. I was excited and nervous at the same time. I had no idea what to expect when working with a master like Troy. I had no training, no nothing,” Athena remembers.

Originally named Latonya Allen-Deloach, she took on the alias Athena Renee musically because it represented her metamorphosis as an artist. “I have learned so much over the years, both in life and in music, and Athena Renee represents that change, that growth, so to speak. My name represents me and the wisdom that has been reborn in me”.

 After teaming up with different producers, Athena felt that it was her time to show what she has learned musically over the years. Athena’s hit singles, “Very Necessary”, “Know Myself”, “In the hurt”, “Beautiful Day”, and “How I feel inside” shows just the beginning of that rebirth.
